In chaos of the evacuation from Dunkirk, the exact place, even date of death, for many men can not be confirmed. Walter is a case in instance, he is recorded with a specific grave but also a special memorial for those whose exact burial plot is not known. He had been moved from Rosendael New Military Cemetery in July 1948, Rosendael being a suburb of Dunkirk now. More often than not, the date of death is simply the day they were last seen alive.
